Half Life 3 may not have released but that doesn’t stop fans from making new games. Black Mesa is a fan-made remake of Half Life, developed and published by Crowbar Collective.
Here is the trailer:
I still remember enough about Half Life to know, just from watching the trailer, that this is a fateful representation of the original game. Black Mesa was originally published as a free mod back in 2012 and today we have the first standalone complete commercial version. Valve is actually cool with all this so don’t worry about the game being taken down.
For those who have never played Half Life here’s the story of the game:
You are Gordon Freeman, a theoretical physicist at the Black Mesa Research Facility. When a routine experiment goes horribly wrong, you must fight your way through an interdimensional alien invasion, and a bloodthirsty military clean-up crew in order to save the science team… and the world!
The original Half Life is very fast paced, constantly changing themes. It’s a fun ride just wanting to know what will happen next. There’s no boring story at all, you just get bits of the story as you go in a seamless way. The only real problem I had with Half Life is that it’s somewhat easy to get stuck in some parts of the game. Black Mesa updates the graphics, sound and adds new details.
Black Mesa has an overwhelmingly positive review on Steam. It’s a must if you want to replay Half Life. If you never played Half Life just get this remake, no point in playing the original. It’s available on Steam for $19.99.
